About the Author

Gennady Stolyarov II, FSA, ACAS, MAAA, CPCU, ARe, ARC, API, AIS, AIE, AIAF

 Mr. Stolyarov holds the professional insurance designations of Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS), Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), Associate in Regulation and Compliance (ARC), Associate in Personal Insurance (API), Associate in Insurance Services (AIS), Accredited Insurance Examiner (AIE), and Associate in Insurance Accounting and Finance (AIAF). He is a graduate of Hillsdale College (2009) with a triple-major in Economics, Mathematics, and German.

During nearly sixteen years of professional actuarial experience, Mr. Stolyarov has reviewed over ten thousand rate and form filings from property and casualty insurers, as well as hundreds of predictive models in areas such as credit-based insurance scoring, usage-based automobile insurance, and peril-specific rating. He has also reviewed captive insurer applications and insurers’ proposals for business-plan changes, assisted with monitoring property and casualty insurance companies’ financial condition, provided input on financial examinations of insurers, and frequently responded to inquiries from consumers, legislators, and the public regarding insurance statutes and regulations. He has presented at several Casualty Actuarial Society meetings and has also been interviewed for the Actuarial Review as well as by various news publications reporting on insurance issues.

Mr. Stolyarov has developed reports for State Legislatures and informational materials for consumers, and spearheaded the first initiative in the United States to publicly post insurers’ home and private passenger automobile policy forms on a State website. Mr. Stolyarov has also actively participated on National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Task Forces, which have, at various times, included the Casualty Actuarial and Statistical Task Force, the Surplus Lines Task Force, the Reinsurance Task Force, and the Workers’ Compensation Task Force.

As part of his endeavors in support of the actuarial community, Mr. Stolyarov has presented to university student groups and mentored actuarial students as part of volunteer programs that provided them with knowledge and work experience. He has also contributed short stories to the Society of Actuaries’ Speculative Fiction Contests.
