About the manual:

The purpose of this study manual to help students to pass the Introduction to General Insurance exam. The study manual covers the Introduction to General Insurance syllabus through Fall 2023 including complete outlines of readings, past exam questions, and 161 practice problems, 98 of them original problems written by the author.

Authored by Max Tang, FSA, MAAA, Ph.D.

Max Tang is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He has been a Senior Actuary with the State of California since 2007. His current responsibilities include analysis of health care utilization and cost data and development of capitation rates for managed care programs. He also worked as a senior research program specialist for the California Department of Insurance. His research publications can be found in the Journal of Insurance Regulation and the Journal of Actuarial Practice.

Max Tang has Ph.D. degree in Economics from University of Hawaii. He has been an adjunct professor for a few universities and colleges. The main courses he has taught include: The Principles of Risk Management and Insurance, Data Analysis for Managers, Micro Economics, and Elementary Statistics.
