About the Author
Cong Nie, FSA, FCIA, Ph.D
Cong is a qualified actuary with dual membership in the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA). He holds a Ph.D. in Statistics with a concentration in Actuarial Science from Western University. His industry background spans life insurance modeling, model review and validation, IFRS 17, and actuarial process automation.
Beyond his industry work, Cong is deeply passionate about actuarial education. He served as an SOA exam question writer and has been collaborating with ACTEX Learning as both a study manual author and an actuarial exam tutor. His teaching background also includes university-level instruction and extensive experience supporting students in actuarial science and mathematics.
Cong’s teaching approach combines exam insight, clear explanations, and individualized guidance. Drawing on his experience in SOA exam question writing and university teaching, he helps students understand complex concepts, recognize common misconceptions, and develop genuine understanding rather than relying on rote memorization.
