About the Author
Sam Broverman, A.S.A., Ph.D.
Sam Broverman has been a Professor of Actuarial Mathematics since 1978, first at The University of Texas at Austin until 1980 and since then at the University of Toronto. Prof. Broverman is the author of texbooks and study guides widely used by students preparing for actuarial examinations.
I just passed exam P! I really liked using GOAL to help measure my readiness for the exam and I found that being able to customize the quizzes to have more focused questions was extremely helpful. For the quizzes, I did get some repeat questions when I made quizzes with the same topics as I had previously. If I could change anything, it would be that the quizzes would take out previous quiz questions in order to not get repeats. If there were some questions that I felt like a video explanation would have helped but in general the answer key explained everything well. ACTEX was very helpful for my passing the exam. I think I ended up with a GOAL score of 73 and the exam felt easy for me and I was confident on basically every answer for the exam. So the level of difficulty of questions were great, especially for the practice exams. Overall, I enjoyed this resource for studying!
Best and most comprehensive study package for the money - no doubt. I thought I was buying a manual and GOAL. I got so MUCH MORE! Video lectures and the electronic manual links to everything on their platform and vice versa. Super easy to jump around and drill down. The topic search is great. I haven't used the scheduler, as I have my own system, but the topic search works awesome. Very happy with ACTEX.
I REALLY liked this manual. I've been out of college for a while and this manual covers it all. I thought I'd need the videos, and they are very helpful, but most of the topics are covered exceptionally well and I found that I rarely chose to watch the video lectures. Glad to have them, however! I used the electronic flashcards a fair amount. Goal is a nice practice tool. I used it mostly for the simulated exams. My Goal Score was a 79 and I passed. Thanks to Actex and this manual.
I shopped around, read every review of every exam prep product or course that I could find. Let me save you a few hours. Buy this manual. It's great as a stand alone product, but it comes with a full complement of lectures on video, electronic flashcards, formula sheets and Goal question bank and everything links together on the learning portal. Nice!
I couldn’t be any happier with the study program by Actex for P. I used the manual and the videos for learning the topics, following the study manual and then watching the videos as needed (and for review). I also did did a ton of the Goal questions by topic with the study manual. The Goal and manual practice exams were the finishing touch during the month leading up to the exam. And I kept referring back to the formula and review sheet when I needed a quick review. I didn't use the planner, but the flashcards were good for some alternate studying in the month leading up to the exam.

Lots of options to choose from for exam P. Actex is pretty amazing and it's a ton cheaper. It's like an online course, but without the sticker shock. If they are doing this for $115 why isn't everyone? I definitely recommend.
Easy to understand; well-written, lots of practice exercises. Step-by-step how to pass exam P. The manual is great, the online videos and Goal program are excellent as well. Very happy, though I had to pay shipping.
Could not have passed Exam P without Actex. Best material - very complete list of exactly what you need, whenever you need it. I liked manual the most with GOAL Score letting me know how much better I had to prepare.

exam p is my first actuarial exam, passed with this study program - glad to have selected actex and will use it if I continue with actuary exams
exellent manual. most of the time I get online resources that come with a text they kinda suck. these are again excellent. I've used them all. goal sessions can be narrow or broad or a full-exam. the videos are by different instructor but I found that that was a good thing, all experts.
This is a very good study program. I love how everthing is linked by keyword; that's the best feature on the website. The study manual covers each topic in great detail. I'm about 5 weeks into it, got a ways more to go. I'll give the videos high markes too. The goal program seems very good, but right now my goal score has only reached 47. I'm targeting over 70 (the actex target for passing).
